Poll shows Pak Lah’s men back on top, Najib’s popularity down

najib-dollahIf a survey conducted by Universiti Malaya into the prospects of the leaders vying for top Umno posts is accurate, then there has been a clear and significant shift in members’ preference since nominations took place in October last year.

At that time, a resurgent Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak had swept the party presidency uncontested, while his perceived choice of deputies secured the highest number of nominations.

On the other hand, those considered as close to outgoing Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi just managed to scrape in.

But the story appears to be the reverse now, perhaps a reflection of the party’s own growing discomfort with Najib and the policies that he promulgates - including the much-feared return to hard-line polices espoused by his mentor, former premier Mahathir Mohamad....
